Oral Cancer Screenings

Sulens Dental targets oral cancer through our gentle screenings.

Oral cancer screenings are an important part of comprehensive dental care. Each exam takes only a few minutes and allows our dentists to identify areas of precancerous tissue or changes in mucosal tissue that appear abnormal from other areas of the mouth.

Precancerous tissue may appear as:

  • White or red lesions
  • Sores that do not heal within 2 weeks
  • Areas on one side of the mouth that look different than other areas of the mouth
  • Difficulty swallowing

Our routine oral cancer screenings help patients diagnose conditions like oral cancer early on to improve the success of treatment.

Risk factors:

Some risk factors for oral cancer include HPV, tobacco, and alcohol use. Areas in the mouth that are most prone to developing cancer include the sides of the tongue, the floor of the mouth, inside of the cheeks or lower lip, and the soft palate.
